Description

BEAUTIFUL EARLY 20TH CENTURY MUNCIE GREEN DRIP OVER LILAC PILLOW VASE
We have the privilege to offer you this beautiful early 20th Century Muncie green drip over lilac pillow vase.
The vase measures 9" tall and 9" long. This piece is marked I-A on the base.
Circa 1925 - 1927 and this vase is shape #192.
Muncie pottery is both marked and unmarked. Unmarked examples are usually early pieces dating 1922 - 1925 when pottery was in its early stages. For this period, you will usually see shape numbers molded forward or backward into the bottom. A Blue smear also appears on the bottom of early works. Wages based on a piece rate plan that was used to identify work done by a particular worker began around 1925 and near that end, each worker marked his or her pieces with an assigned number or letter. Finishers used the letters A, B, D, E, K and M and molders used the roman numerals I and II, as well as 2, 3, 4 and 5. A 6 has surfaced. Molders usually did not work on hand-turned pieces, as the finishers had done the majority of hand-turning work. Those pieces have a single mark, normally an A or K. Those 2 finishers did most of the hand-turning work. Other marks haved turned up. Pieces marked with just a number mean that only the molder worked on the piece. Starting around 1927, workers began stamping the Muncie name into the bottom of the pottery with a die stamp along with the usual letters and numbers. Near the end of production, you would only see the Muncie name.
Matte drip combinations used include green over rose, blue over rose, green over lilac, green over pumpkin, green over green, blue over white, rose over white, white over blue or white over rose. The continuously used drip combinations are the most common of all the Muncie glazes. The rarest drip combinations are the blue over white and rose over white variations.
This gorgeous piece is in excellent condition with no chips, hairlines or repairs.
The vase is just stunning and would accent any Country home well. A great addition for any Muncie or pottery collector.

In regard to furniture and accessories, we sell antique furniture and accessories. As most people know, these pieces become more beautiful with age because of movements and distress in the woods, some having restoration. Spindle turnings will not be uniform and swell unevenly with age. Wood tends to get stress fractures on support systems and where wide board construction is used. 85% of 18th Century veneers have had some restoration during their life. Pine secondary woods might fracture, making overlays and veneers have the same fracture lines. Old finishes might alligator, fade, fisheye or darken, depending on where the pieces were placed. All of these are desired by a true collector and gives it personality. Do not expect these early pieces to be like new. These pieces age gracefully just as we do, giving them unique personality. We do our best to describe and photograph all items thoroughly, but handle a quantity of pieces every day and might miss something. All these antique pieces are sold as is. It is your responsibility to view the photos, review the description, if you wish photos of a specific area on any piece we are happy to promptly submit them to you and ask any questions you may have before bidding. Selling items, untouched, usually directly from estates, we are not experts on clock works or any items with mechanical or moving parts. We know if they tick, run, move and are in tune with the quality of sound, but offer no guarantees on these items.
