EXQUISITE BEAUTY from Union Islands
. Found by a diver on a night dive in 30 feet of water on sand, Union Island, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, 2020. You know, the number of very rare shells now available to the average collector just because
night
diving has become popular is rather amazing---golden cowries, all of the victor cone species,
johnabbasi cones, cedonulli cones, the list just goes on and on. And without a doubt, LED flashlights have been a major factor in this sudden upswing in night diving. Oh, I had friends who went out night diving in the 60's and 70's, but they were mad! I mean, imagine jumping into pitch-black water with a flashlight that lit up about 5 feet around you, the rest was just a black wall to you, and said light was good for usually 30-60 minutes at best, getting progressively dimmer the longer the dive went, and of course almost every dive a shark, attracted by your light, would swim in and out of your dwindling cone of light, disappearing just as quickly as he appeared, and
then
where was he, huh?
That
was night diving, and only the hardy or the fool-hardy did it.
. But in Hawaii, oh did they find some great shells!
. But now, with LED flashlights? I was fishing one night at Makaha when two went into the water with LED lights, and those lights lit up an area of 30 feet or more around them, and the odds of those flashlights dying during a dive were almost nil. Talk about lucky bums!
..Anyhow, that's how this cone was collected, at night, and as the photos show, even with the repair on its side, it is a rare, gorgeous beauty that would look
terrific
sitting on your shelf! And if you add in the story of how
you
found it on a night dive in the middle of nowhere with sharks everywhere...
The perfect shell for a first-class collection.
As for normal disclaimers, we do the best we can with photos, but color is tricky, especially since cell phone cameras automatically lean towards flesh-tone coloring, (that's why so many of the photos of shells on eBay show up with more orange than is really there, the camera changes the color, and damm if I can figure out how to stop that from happening, but I try, honest!
As for feedback, as your know, sellers live and die by the feedback you leaved, (please leave fives!) so if you have a problem, just let me know! After all, I'm retired, and all messages go directly to my phone, so unless I'm out shell collecting I will get back to you pronto-like!
Shell collecting! Now there's a phrase that brings smiles to your eyes, doesn't it!
Anyhow, if you have read this far, you have my apologies and best wishes from those of us at IslandShells323. And don't forget,
Home is where your collection is!
